Nine Veterans Went to Mexico for a Psychedelic Retreat. Here's How They Felt a Year Later.
60 Minutes followed nine veterans with PTSD to a psychedelic retreat in Mexico, organized and paid for by the Heroic Hearts Project, then went back nearly a year later. Eight of the nine reported lasting improvement and called it life-changing. Randy Weaver, diagnosed in 2007 after tours in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan, said the suicidal thoughts have not returned since. Ed Glover, a Marine and 22-year firefighter who had come close — the note, the gun — reported not one since. The piece does not flatten the picture: TJ Duff, who survived the USS Cole bombing, left the retreat early, declined afterward, and went back on antidepressants. A useful reminder that the container and the follow-up matter as much as the session.

A Mother's Journey Toward Healing After Losing Her Daughter
Diane lost her nine-year-old daughter Emily to Ewing's sarcoma in 2024, after more than two years of caregiving. In an eight-hour guided session with psilocybin and ketamine, she describes consciousness without form, time losing its line, and Emily's presence without ever seeing her — arriving at the sense that Emily and she are already together, the bond unbroken. Emily loved foxes. While Diane dreamed of one, a wild fox came onto the property and fell asleep near her guide. She came out of it with the anxiety replaced by something lighter, and gratitude for the time she had.

America's First Legal Psilocybin Program Publishes Its First Big Outcomes Study
The first multisite evaluation of Oregon's regulated psilocybin services followed 346 adults who completed a session at one of 24 licensed service centers between November 2024 and June 2026. Published in JAMA Network Open, it found meaningful improvement in depression, anxiety and PTSD symptoms alongside gains in well-being and life satisfaction, with serious adverse reactions uncommon. At one month, 91.5% of participants said they had benefited from the experience. The findings arrive while Oregon regulators weigh doubling annual license fees for service centers and manufacturers from $10,000 to $20,000 — a proposal facilitators warn could price both practitioners and seekers out of the only program of its kind in the country.

A Single Supervised Dose: The Trial Design That Sidesteps the Therapist Bottleneck
Definium built its Phase 3 anxiety program around one supervised dose rather than pairing the medicine with extended psychotherapy — a deliberate choice aimed at fitting inside ordinary psychiatric clinics. Minimizing required therapy also reduces dependence on specialized facilitator credentialing, the bottleneck some observers blame for the FDA's rejection of the MDMA application two years ago. For anyone whose work lives in preparation and integration, it is worth watching closely: the commercial model taking shape may ask less of the container than the research that built this field did.

FDA Will Hear From the Field on Psychedelics in "Supervised and Supportive Settings"
On September 14 the FDA holds a public hearing on the future therapeutic use of psychedelic drugs in supervised and supportive settings — the first time the agency has formally invited the field to speak to the conditions around the dose rather than the molecule itself. The hearing runs 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. ET, in person at White Oak and by webcast. Requests to present have closed, but attendance is open and written comments are being accepted through October 5.

ARPA-H Opens Federal Funding for Ibogaine Trials
ARPA-H has published its ASCENT-IBO solicitation, funding accelerated Phase I/II ibogaine trials for opioid use disorder, with solution summaries due October 15. The program draws on the $50 million federal match established by April's executive order, and the University of Miami is gifting its ibogaine IND to the government to help sponsors move faster. The same bulletin flags a new report mapping a path to Medicaid coverage for psychedelic-assisted therapy — and the quiet closure of at-home ketamine provider Innerwell.

Compass's Psilocybin NDA Is Partially Filed and Already Under FDA Review
COMP360 for treatment-resistant depression is now under active FDA review, with its new drug application partially submitted under a rolling framework. The agency has begun reviewing initial modules and asking questions, which analysts read as a sign the Commissioner's National Priority Voucher is working as intended. Compass expects to complete the filing in the fourth quarter, with a possible commercial launch in the first half of 2027.
