A North Carolina Veteran's Ibogaine Turning Point After 25 Years at War
Chris Boardman served 25 years in the Army, deploying to Afghanistan and Iraq, and came home with PTSD and traumatic brain injury that left him sleeping only two and a half hours a night for over a decade. With support from a VETS Foundational Healing Grant, he traveled to Mexico for ibogaine treatment. "The medicine doesn't make you feel better," he says. "It teaches you to feel." Three years later, he's substance-free and at peace.

Psychedelics Surge Again as Compass and Definium Deliver New Clinical Validation
Definium Therapeutics and Compass Pathways delivered pivotal wins for psychedelic depression treatments this week. Definium's Phase 3 data showed an 8.1-point placebo-adjusted improvement sustained through 12 weeks, while Compass reported that 39% of patients achieved lasting symptom reduction six months after treatment. One physician predicted the results could "wipe out the SSRIs" if safety profiles hold up.

Texas Launches Its Own $50 Million Ibogaine Clinical Trial Program
After failing to find a pharmaceutical partner, Texas is funding its own ibogaine clinical trials through UTHealth Houston and UT Medical Branch Galveston, backed by $50 million in state funds under Senate Bill 2308. The program will study ibogaine's effects on opioid addiction, traumatic brain injury, and PTSD — one of the largest state investments in psychedelic medicine research to date, with additional federal backing following President Trump's April executive order.

Eli Lilly to Buy Psychedelic Drugmaker AtaiBeckley for Up to $3.8 Billion
Eli Lilly is acquiring AtaiBeckley for $2.8 billion upfront plus up to $1 billion in milestone payments, marking the pharma giant's entry into psychedelics. The deal centers on BPL-003, a nasal-spray psychedelic compound that showed rapid antidepressant effects in treatment-resistant depression patients. Analysts call it one of the biggest shifts yet for psychiatry, putting Lilly alongside Compass Pathways in the race to bring psychedelic medicine to market.

North Carolina Lawmakers Advance Bipartisan Bill for $5 Million in Psychedelic Therapy Research
North Carolina lawmakers are advancing the HEAL Act, bipartisan legislation proposing $5 million in research grants for psychedelic-assisted therapy targeting PTSD and treatment-resistant depression in veterans, first responders, and trauma survivors. The bill would also create a task force to study regulatory pathways, building on recent federal momentum including the HHS-VA partnership.

Congress Moves to Extend Military Psychedelics Research Program Through 2033
A House committee advanced a bipartisan amendment extending the Department of Defense's psychedelics research program for six more years, through 2033. The measure would expand clinical trials of psilocybin, MDMA, and other compounds for active-duty service members with PTSD and traumatic brain injury, with a Pentagon report on outcomes due by February 2027.
